Have you ever wonder, what is the difference between religion and relationship? Religion will never get you to heaven. Only relationship will. Jesus said, in Matthew 7:21, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
What is the difference between religion and relationship? The difference between the two is a matter of the heart. Religion is knowing there is a God, but not knowing Him. Religion is singing songs, you don't mean or know the meaning behind the song. Religion is doing what is right out of duty, but not from the heart. It is going through the motions. You go to church, because you have to and not because you want to. Religion is trying to please God by good works, when God is more interested in our trust. Relationship is loving God and others from the heart.
What is the difference between religion and relationship? Relationship seeks to know God, while religion settles for what we have been taught. Religion relies on what others teach us. We believe what we are taught by our parents, our nation or our church. It does not seek to know God, it thinks that we already know Him. We have the attitude of knowing everything. We don't think we are wrong with our believes, so we never check for the truth. Relationship, realizes that we need to know God in a personal way. Relationship prays and asks God to reveal Himself to us. Relationship picks up and reads a Bible to see if we are correct in our beliefs. It checks the Bible to see if we have been taught correctly. Relationship has the desire to know God more everyday.
What is the difference between religion and relationship? Religion confesses our sin (wrong doings), but has no desire to make changes in our lives. We confess our sins, but do the same thing over and over again. We are not really sorry for what we do. We do the same thing over and over again. Relationship, has the desire to make changes. Relationship understands that change does not come overnight, but it has the attitude of working on the areas that need to be changed. Relationship, goes to God in prayer, asking Him to change our hearts, our desires, and our lives. It is having an attitude of making change. We are willing to do whatever it takes, but we don't want to stay the same. We seek council from our pastors, we pray and start taking steps towards a life that is pleasing before God. We are not saved by works, but we live pleasing lives out of a love for God and others. We make a commitment to make Jesus the Lord of our lives.
What is the difference between religion and relationship? Religion is praying, reading the Bible, singing and going to church, even though our heart is not into it. It is going through the motions. We go to church, but don't really want to be there. We only go because it is Sunday, or we feel like we have to. Religion sings songs, but not paying any attention to the words. We sing, but we don't know what we are singing. Worst yet, is when we sing a song and don't even believe it. Religion reads a Bible, but never applying it to our lives. Religion is knowing what is right, but not doing it. Religion is a heart that is far from God. Relationship, is going to church because we want to. We go because we love God and want to know him better. Relationship is singing songs, and meaning every word we sing. Relationship is reading a Bible to know God better, to see what areas in our lives that need to be changed. Relationship takes what we learn and puts it into practice.
What is the difference between religion and relationship? Religion is not doing anything different, than what you are already doing. It is to keep going through the motions. Relationship, is when you make a commitment to give your life to Jesus. Relationship begins when you through prayer receive the gift of eternal life through faith alone in the death of Jesus on the cross for your sins and His resurrection. It when you make a decision to make Him both Lord and Savior of your life. As Savior you believe there is forgiveness at the cross. As Lord you are committed to being obedient to His commandments. Which one do you have. Jesus does not want religion, He wants relationship!
If you are ready to go from the difference between religion and relationship, repeat the following prayer. Dear Jesus, I believe you died on the cross for my sin and then rose again. Please forgive me, for everything I have done wrong. Come into my life. I choose to make you my Lord and Savior.
